This document describes the steps required to properly install the Windows ME Generic AC '97 Modem Driver, which accompany this document. Please understand that the modem drivers you will be installing are intended for basic data and fax modem operations and are generally not supported. Extract the Conexant AC '97 soft modem driver. 1. Download the Windows ME HSF Generic Driver from the website (www.conexant.com). 2. Double click on the self-extracting executable file on your local drive (C:\). **Note: It is recommended that you take note of the exact location of the extracted files, as you will be required to use this information during the installation process. On how to download the generic modem drivers please read the document "Instructions on How to Download Generic Drivers". **************************************************************************** II. Instructions for Windows ME install the Conexant AC '97 soft modem drivers with HXFSetup.exe. 1. Go to the folder where the modem driver was extracted and double click on the HXFSetup.exe file. 2. By clicking on the HXFSetup.exe, you will be uninstalling the current installed modem driver, if installed, and installing the Conexant soft modem (HSF) driver downloaded from the Conexant website. 3. Allow a few seconds for the next step, while the operating system works in the background. When the "Add New Hardware Wizard" pops up, direct it to the drivers. a. Select "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)" and click "Next". b. Select "Specify a location" and browse the folder where the drivers are located, C:\CXT AC-Link modem ME, then click "Next". 4. The wizard will prompt with a question to confirm that you would like to install the AC '97 modem. The term "enumerator" is associated with the Conexant modem. Click "Next" to confirm and proceed, then "Finish" to complete the modem installation. To unistall the modem, use the "Add and Remove Programs" control panel. **************************************************************************** III. Testing your modem 1. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and open the modem control panel 2. Click on the Diagnostic tab and select the modem from the list of COM ports. 3. Click on the more info button. If the modem is working properly you will see the results of some basic modem queries and an OK button.
